Board publishes briefing for General Synod members on the Kairos Palestine Motion

The Kairos Palestine document has circulated in church circles for years now, and every time a synod picks it up, the same pattern plays out: a political framework gets dressed in theological language, and Israel's covenant claim to the land gets quietly written out of the story. When a governing board feels it needs to "brief" its members before a vote like this, that alone tells you the material is contested — and it should be. Elohim's covenant with Abraham was not metaphor. "To your descendants I will give this land" (Genesis 15:18) was a real promise to a real people, and no amount of replacement theology dressed up as justice advocacy changes what He swore. I'm not naive about the real suffering on the ground in that region — Torah itself demands justice for the oppressed, whoever they are. But there's a difference between calling for mercy and constructing a theology that erases Israel's place in Elohim's plan. Zechariah 12:3 warns that Jerusalem will become "a burdensome stone for all peoples" — everyone will feel compelled to weigh in, to reframe, to pressure. That's exactly what we're watching unfold in mainline denominational halls. Paul warned the Romans not to be arrogant toward the branches (Romans 11:18), and that warning applies just as much to synod floors as it does to street corners. When institutions start needing briefing papers to manage internal division over Israel, it's a signal, not a sideshow. Keep your eyes open, keep your Bible open, and don't let a committee vote quietly reshape what Elohim has already declared.
